GetTogether on AI Assisted to AI First software development - past the hype

During this session our keynote speaker Bert Michielsen will share his experience with AI assisted and AI first software development.

AI, It is propably THE buzz-term of this and last year. More and more people start to use AI these days, including software developers. Many people use it incorrectly.. For most developers, including our speaker Bert, this was limited to AI assisted development, in other words the use of chatbots for coding purposes. He quickly found out this comes with hickups. Bert takes us through the risks, his experiences and adds some tips and tricks along the way. To end the AI assisted development part with a close look on Github Copilot.

In a second part Bert will tackle the subject of AI first development. That will be more of a theoretical part than a practical part. What is AI first? Where does it come from? What are the techniques involved? What is the difference between ( the use of ) chatbots and AI engines? How to start a AI first project? AI first is very recent. Bert came across the term in January of 2026 ( the term was first launched in 2020 ), so he took a deep dive into this subject only very recently.

Our Speaker

Bert Michielsen worked 17 years or so in the IT Consultancy business, for the most part with Queaso Services, Unaicle Belgium and CTG ( now a Cegeka company ). Within that time he programmed mainly in Microsoft Technoloies, from Visual Basic 6 Desktop applications to .NET 8 Blazor Web applications and everything in between. In 2025 Bert started to use AI intensively, porting 35+ years old Delphi code to modern .NET code. In January of this year he came across the term AI first, which immediately caught his attention and he started to delve deeper into the subject.
