The ICT carting trophy is a team building event for companies active in information technology. Twelve teams of six pilots race more than 200 laps to find out who can take the trophy back home. The place of action is InKart in Puurs.

Six of our most enthusiastic consultants took on the challenge to defend the honor of Queaso Systems during this race. They did a very good job, given the overwhelming opposition of the well trained other teams. The pilots succeeded in securing the 10th place on the score board. Well done boys!

The rest of the team entered into the role of supporter and coach of the pilot team. Some moral support was indeed necessary to keep the spirit up and to keep them going. A buffet stuffed with nice food and accompanying drinks completed the setting for this evening.

 

The spectators who took the effort to come over to Antwerpen were offered the following menu of exquisite movies. The introduction and comments to the movies are edited by Jelle, our in house film expert:

	Shoot’em up (86min) - for the real “action addicts”: This great and mostly violent movie has undoubtedly the most fitting title ever. This movie is a non-stop firing streak but nevertheless they succeed to squeeze in a small but still interesting story. So a lot of bullets, action and small jokes in a winning combination with the great acting of Clive Owen and Paul Giamatti.
	The Kings Speech (118min) - for the general public:  A real must-see for everyone, this movie has it all: drama, history, humour, tension, … and last but not least an incredible acting performance of Colin Firth, playing the lead as “King George VI of Britain”. Not less impressive is his co-lead player Geoffrey Rush (who recognised Barbossa from Pirates of the Caribbean?) who tries to help the king beat his speech deficiency. This film certainly is worthy of the main spot in our annual Queaso movienight!
	Tron Legacy (125min) - for the die-hard IT crowd: Admit it, is there anyone of the old folks who once saw/knew/remembered the old Tron movie that expected to see “the Grid” again on the big screen? Jeff Bridges takes on the role of Kevin Flynn for the second time. Also his loyal co-player Bruce Boxleitner (for the really very old ones amongst us, known from the series: Babylon 5) already played his part as Tron in the original movie as he also does in the sequel. I’m very pleased that these two icons were found willing to do this sequel that thank goodness is not a remake. I’m sure this nice piece of sci-fi, with it’s hilarious “interpretations of technology” and luckily much better effects as the original, is a perfect closure.

Once again I think we can conclude that this was a fine event, bringing together people from different locations, interests and back ground around a common topic: film. Amongst other things, this is what underlines the team spirit of Queaso Systems.

The exchange program is set up to allow politicians and entrepreneurs to get to know each other better and to disclose what is going on behind closed doors. CEO Filip De Sutter spend two days in the Flemish Parliament and shadowed Vera Van der Borght during commission gatherings, debates and plenum meetings. He experienced the hectic life of a member of parliament from close by.

As a kind of counter payment Vera Van der Borght was invited at the table to experience a business analysis intake with one of our clients. Coincidence (or not?), the topic discussed was of high interest to the politician. So an animated conversation arose. The visit was concluded with an explanation of our activities and business domain we are active in.

The UNIZO KMO Contact exchange program will be finalized later on with a debate in the Flemish Parliament in the presence of Karel Van Eetvelt and chairman of the Flemish Parliament Jan Peumans.

Indeed for this GetTogether we went for something completely different. Instead of the long known format of a lecture on a certain topic, be it technical or not, accompanied by food and beverage upfront and peer talks at the bar afterwards, we organized a visit to Living Tomorrow. The drinks and the food – that was excellent by the way – were retained. The guided tour of about ninety minutes replaced the lecture.

A knowledgeable guide showed us around in the house of the future. A short introduction movie was used to bring us in the correct mood. And off we went through the hall way with sophisticated delivery box features up the stairs into a USS Enterprise alike kitchen. The impact of technological (IT) revolutions, exhaustion of energy resources, etc. was clearly stated.

The tour led us into the senior flat incorporating an adapted living room, a big and handy bathroom and a monitored bedroom. All kind of technological stuff helps the elderly to stay living in their homes much longer than usually is the case. A visit to the bathroom with wellness allures and a huge living room annex office corner completed the house visit.

A short demonstration on how future shopping might look like was the end of the official part of the evening. And downstairs we went to the bar for some drinks and a last sandwich. I recon everybody had a good time and a lot to talk about.

Behind the scene of this edition there was really a last minute tension because our original speaker Frank Speleers couldn’t make it to the event due to a sudden illness. Since we seized the opportunity through Frank of presenting Office 365 just a few days after the official launch in Belgium we desperately looked for a lectures at least equally proficient on the topic. Thanks to the intervention of a personal relation (I owe you one Fréderique) Annelies Bulkens , Product Marketing Manager Unified Communication at Microsoft Belgium was found willing to take over the presentation. Just a couple of hours before the start of the event her presence was confirmed.

No doubt about it: Annelies did a great job presenting in a nutshell the possibilities and the go to market approach of Office 365. Indeed, not really a technical presentation , but clarification for most of the attendees what direction Microsoft is heading with this product offering. A nice on-line demonstration featuring Fréderique (again) accompanied with some to the point questions completed the official part of the evening.

I am not really sure, but for most of the guest the BBQ that followed was as appealing as the presentation. And I can’t blame them for a second. Once again we were spoiled with delicious roasted meat and fish, fresh vegetables and accompanying drinks. Only the weather could have been better. But the staff of brasserie “Den Blakken” did their very best to shield us from the elements.
