GetTogether event on Communication at Work

Posted on November 17th, 2008

They say 7 is a lucky number and it definitely was the case here with the 7th Queaso GetTogether. Especially for the ladies as our speaker started his presentation with a (non explicit) strip act. The guys in the room looked a bit worried though πŸ˜‰ The topic of the evening was communication at work, presented by Sheryar Malik.

Before we got into that topic though it was time for a friendly chat with the peers along with a sandwich to fill our tummies. The turnout was quite nice with a lot of new faces. The downside was that the hotel where we were hosting our event was overbooked and they stuck us in a smaller room. We managed to fit everyone in though, but it was tight, yet cozy.

As mentioned above, the presentation started off in a non conventional way, but after most of us had recovered from the initial shock (except maybe the ladies πŸ˜‰ ) it turned out into a fascinating topic. I personally had no idea that most communication happens non verbally and that only 15% of all communication actually contains the message we want to get across. You’d be surprised what actions a person does (or doesn’t do) that are actually contributing to his or her communication.

After the presentation we got to put our just learned lessons to the test as we moved to the bar of the hotel for some refreshing drinks and some friendly chatter with our peers. All on the expenses of Queaso of course πŸ˜‰
