Remembering David Boschmans

Posted on August 22nd, 2007

“Be inspired”, that is what my mobile phone throws me in the face as I switch it on leaving the funeral of David Boschmans on the morning of August 11th in Huissegem – Denderleeuw (B). No two other words could ever summarize more what David was for those who knew him: an inspired and admired Microsoft evangelist. Visionair behind the Belgium Developer & IT Pro Days, he will be missed by many people.

David BoschmansThe little church building in the rural Huissegem was far too small to house the big crowd that came to say a last farewell to David. Only his love ones, family and dearest friends and colleagues could get in. A long queue waited patiently in front of the church, mourning in silence for a great man that lost the battle for his live on the night of August 7th.

Personally I had the opportunity to work as an analyst alongside David a few years ago in a medium sized .NET project. The almost mythical gab between an analyst view and a technical one on how things should evolve in an IT project where of course present. Nevertheless David always was available as an enthusiastic coach to get me into the .NET way of doing things. And indeed, bit by bit, his energy and enthusiasm made me head in the direction of Microsoft technology. David’s clear and pragmatic approach clarified some of the mysteries of the .NET framework for me. I thank him for that and will always remember him.

Take care David, and teach them a lesson up there …
